This course provides a practical and structured understanding of ship damage stability, focusing on how flooding caused by hull damage affects a vessel’s stability, trim, heel, and survivability. It covers the principles of damage stability, deterministic and probabilistic methods, damage stability criteria, damage stability calculations, damage stability booklets, and assessment of damaged conditions.
The course also explains the Master’s and navigating officer’s responsibilities during a damage scenario, including the use of stability information, emergency response procedures, and Emergency Technical Assistance Services (ETAS) provided by classification societies. Emphasis is placed on developing the ability to assess damage conditions, interpret stability results, and make safe operational decisions during flooding emergencies.
