This course provides a practical understanding of the control measures used to ensure the safety, seaworthiness, regulatory compliance, and operational integrity of merchant ships. It covers the roles and responsibilities of Classification Societies, Flag State Control, Port State Control (PSC), and various statutory and commercial inspections.
Students will learn who conducts each inspection, why it is carried out, what is primarily inspected, and how deficiencies can affect ship safety, operations, certification, and commercial performance. The course also explains the relationship between these control mechanisms and the responsibilities of the shipowner, Master, officers, crew, Flag State, Class, and Port State.
The course is designed to help maritime professionals understand inspections not merely as compliance exercises, but as essential control measures for preventing accidents, maintaining vessel standards, and ensuring uninterrupted commercial operation.
